It’s become more than clear that Donald Trump and his administration don’t care that Russia meddled in the 2016 election. Most likely because they helped him win.
Proving this point, yet again, is Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
While appearing on Fox News on Friday, Sanders wouldn’t condemn Russian President Vladimir Putin, much like her boss, the *president.
“Look, the president said back in January that he thought that this was probably driven by the Russians. I don’t think that we’ve been quiet or inconsistent on that fact.”
“I think the bigger piece is protecting and making sure things like this don’t happen again. That’s where our focus is, is looking at how we can maintain voter integrity. Moving forward, it’s one of the reasons we support voter ID laws and protecting our system across the board.”
Here’s the thing, though. voter fraud isn’t actually a thing, but Russian hacking very much is. So, while Trump wants to focus on a nonexistent problem, he and his administration are ignoring the actual problem that is disintegrating the integrity of our democracy.
Here’s the icing on the cake. Sanders said:
“I think there’s always going to be people that are looking to attack Americans in that form and we have to constantly look for ways to protect ourselves whether it’s through a large number of different tactics on national security front.”
They are literally treating Russian hacking like it’s not a problem that’s extraordinary and think leaving it to other folks to sort out is good enough. This is a major national security issue when the president doesn’t really give a sh*t what happens when a foreign country attacks us.
