At this point, one has to wonder if there is a single Republican who doesn’t belong in that “basket” Hillary Clinton mentioned.

Georgia state Rep. Jason Spencer is under fire for threatening an African-American former state Rep. who agrees with the majority of Americans who feel that monuments celebrating traitors who joined the Confederacy should be removed from public areas.

Spencer told LaDawn Jones that “people in South Georgia are people of action, not drama” and warned her to be careful talking about removing Confederate monuments because she “will go missing in the Okefenokee.”

If that sounds like a direct threat, it was. Unfortunately for Spencer, Jones was not at all scared by his words.

“Enjoy but know … WINTER IS COMING,” she replied. “You know it too … otherwise you wouldn’t have found a need to even make this post or those hollow threats of not coming to south GA.”

Spencer says that his threats were not intended as threats, however. He was just warning her that something bad would happen to her if she persisted in talking about the monuments’ removal.

“She is from Atlanta – and the rest of Georgia sees this issue very differently,” Spencer told the Atlanta Constitution-Journal. “Just trying to keep her safe if she decided to come down and raise hell about the memorial in the back yards of folks who will see this as an unwelcome aggression from the left.”

He also asked the publication to include a photo of him standing next to a statue of Martin Luther King Jr. — apparently so he can say he isn’t a racist because he stood next to a statue. They obliged:

Many are calling for Spencer to step down in the wake of his remarks, but he has shown no signs that he intends to do so.
