We Knew It Would Happen Eventually: Alex Jones Leads The Call For Civil War Against Trump Resisters

There’s only one wild-eyed conspiracy theorist for Donald Trump, and it’s unhinged Texas right-wing screed peddler Alex Jones. Sure, Trump has praised other conservative commentators before. But as far as the president is concerned, Jones is the one he can’t “let down.”

So the article that came out in Newsweek over the weekend is particularly concerning, because it seems the mainstream media is finally picking up on something we here at Opposition Report have known for a long time: The American Right is calling for civil war against anyone who disagrees with Donald Trump.

What’s most troubling is how effective the conservative talking heads are. Whether they’re on television or just on the radio, their audience is the same — low-intelligence, easily-influenced assholes who love to have their hate fed by someone who speaks a little more concisely than they do. So while you or I might hear something interesting and look it up later on to confirm the truth of it, listeners to people like Jones, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, or the original pig himself Rush Limbaugh waste no such time on silly fact-checking.

When Bill O’Reilly called Dr. George Tiller a “baby-killer” day in and day out, often mentioning vigilante justice, it resonated with Scott Roeder, the man convicted of murdering the abortion doctor. Roeder mentioned O’Reilly by name, and the unrepentant former Fox host said at the time that he “knew pro-abortion zealots and Fox News haters would attempt to blame” him for it. Although Jared Lee Loughner never name-dropped Sarah Palin, there’s a case to be made for her website’s “crosshairs” graphics that painted targets on Democrats she wanted to see unseated being at least a partial impetus for the shooting of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

And in the case of Jones himself, there is simply no doubt that he is directly responsible for Edgar Maddison Welch’s 2016 shooting at Comet Ping Pong, the pizza shop Jones liked to claim housed a child sex trafficking ring in the basement. The conspiracy, dubbed “Pizzagate,” involved Hillary Clinton, John Podesta, and a basement that didn’t even exist. Alex Jones’ half-hearted apology, issued only to avoid legal action, did little to scrub the image of Welch’s AR-15 from the minds of the terrified families dining there at the time of the shooting. Welch told the New York Times he was a fan of The Alex Jones Show.

But since the election of Trump, Jones has stepped up his game. From the Newsweek piece:

Jones likes to call himself a “performance artist” when it suits his purposes. He used it as an excuse for his behavior at home in a custody dispute with his ex-wife, then used it as a defense after he publicly threatened the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, in a homophobic and expletive-laden rant even I won’t quote for fear someone might be looking.

But if the frequent skirmishes at pro-Trump rallies between alt-Right assholes like Alex Jones and Antifa resisters are any indication, they’re going to have to step up their “performance art,” too.
