Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. had a chance to put two criminals away but he forced his prosecutors to drop the case after Donald Trump’s sleazy lawyer bought him off.

Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. were actively committing fraud in an effort to sell Trump’s SoHo hotel and condos. They were inflating the numbers in order to convince possible buyers that the property was popular and selling out fast.

Both knew what they were doing and were even paranoid about reporters discovering what they were doing.

In 2010, the Major Economic Crimes Bureau opened an investigation and was closing in on Donald Jr. and Ivanka. Even their own criminal defense lawyers admitted that their clients committed fraud. The investigation got to the point where their father whined about how the investigation wasn’t going away.

That’s when Trump attorney Marc Kasowitz stepped in and outright bribed Vance with a massive campaign donation.

Upon giving Vance’s campaign $25,000, Kasowitz met with him personally. After that, Vance forced his prosecutors to drop the investigation without any real reason to do so.

According to a witness who saw emails about the scam, there was absolutely “no doubt” that Donald Jr. and Ivanka “approved, knew of, agreed to, and intentionally inflated the numbers to make more sales. They knew it was wrong.”

Indeed, it’s a crime. One that should have been investigated to a final conclusion resulting in criminal charges. But Vance forced his people to look the other way because he saw dollar signs.

Of course, Vance denies any impropriety.

“I did not at the time believe beyond a reasonable doubt that a crime had been committed,” Vance said. “I had to make a call and I made the call, and I think I made the right call.”

So why not see the investigation through to the end and make a call instead of doing it right after being given tens of thousands of dollars by Trump’s lawyer?

This is not how a District Attorney’s office is supposed to work. You don’t drop the case just because someone gives you money.

And six months after the case was dropped, Kasowitz dropped another $50,000 in Vance’s lap. Vance claimed that he planned to give it back at some point after he was confronted about it by journalists.

It certainly looks like Vance was rewarded handsomely for dropping the criminal case.

Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. could have been arrested and jailed. The case even had ties to organized crime. Clearly, the District Attorney’s office prematurely dropped the investigation.

It’s also entirely possible that Donald Trump would not be sitting in the Oval Office right now had his children been brought to trial and found guilty of fraud. Such a situation would have likely been a noose around Trump’s neck during the campaign. In fact, he probably would not have made it past the primary.

Even Paul Grand, a partner at the law firm that represented the Trumps, says that ‘the manner in which” the case was dropped “is curious.”

Frankly, this case should be reopened and Vance should be investigated. No one should be able to get away with committing crimes simply be paying off the District Attorney. Not even the Trump family.
