Trump Proves With One Tweet That His Decisions Are To Appease Religious Base

After a morning of outrage over his decision to overturn the Obama-era rule allowing transgender soldiers to serve openly in the military, Donald Trump went back to Twitter to erase any doubts anyone might have had that his action had nothing to do with the “cost” of allowing it — it was all for show:

“Government,” in this case, is Trump’s way of saying “progress by way of legislative or executive action.” It seems like any kind of progress is forbidden in the Trump administration.

Accompanying the tweet was a post he made on Instagram using video of the speech he gave last night in Ohio. The speech, gearing his rabid followers up for just the kind of announcement he made this morning about our military, was outright fascist in nature, leaving no room for Americans who do not share his beliefs:

[W]e believe that family and faith, not government and bureaucracy, are the foundation of our society. You have heard me say it before on the campaign trail, and I’ll say it again tonight. In America, we don’t worship government. We worship God.”

Never mind the fact that he just “found” his religion. Prior to running for president, Trump’s only belief system was Almighty Capitalism. But in order to even run as a Republican in America, any candidate must appeal to the evangelical Right who deliver a significant portion of their votes. And despite his history as a filthy-mouthed, lying, cheating, womanizing pile of barely-human garbage, Trump managed to do just that.

I don’t know if that says worse things about Trump as a pretender, or about his religious base as blind followers.

Either way, he has left us zero doubt that he intends to remake America in the image of not a loving, accepting, welcoming place, but of a theocracy whose borders are closed to those of different religions, skin colors, or ways of life.
