Donald Trump is literally about to initiate a fire-sale of our government programs that will make America a more dangerous place for women.
And everyone else for that matter.
Trump now has a list of programs and government departments he wants to cut and it’s more than shameful.
Not only is Trump planning on totally annihilating funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and the Public Broadcasting Service, he intends to eliminate all of the Justice Department’s Violence Against Women Grants along with legal services and funding for the Civil Rights and Environmental divisions.
According to The Hill:
At the Department of Justice, the blueprint calls for eliminating the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, Violence Against Women Grants and the Legal Services Corporation and for reducing funding for its Civil Rights and its Environment and Natural Resources divisions.
The grant program has been beneficial to women and law enforcement over the years in preventing domestic violence. Apparently, Trump wants to make it easier for women to be brutally beaten and sexually assaulted. And gutting the Civil Rights division is the worst news people of color in this country could possibly hear since such a move will likely lead to increased discrimination, hate crimes, and voter suppression.
But that’s not all.
Trump is also targeting climate change research and science, including cutting an agency that was designed to find new technologies to reduce carbon dioxide levels.
At the Department of Energy, it would roll back funding for nuclear physics and advanced scientific computing research to 2008 levels, eliminate the Office of Electricity, eliminate the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and scrap the Office of Fossil Energy, which focuses on technologies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Under the State Department’s jurisdiction, funding for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, the Paris Climate Change Agreement and the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are candidates for elimination.
The elimination of nuclear physics funding is particularly disturbing since it is necessary in nuclear power and nuclear weapons research. Cutting this funding would likely have an adverse effect in these two areas at a time when Trump is calling for a new nuclear arms race and at a time when our nuclear power facilities are aging.
So it’s not only women who are going to suffer under Trump’s destructive regime, this entire country is about to enter a nightmare that is going to last for four years unless Americans band together and do something to stop it. These funding cuts will do nothing to lower the national debt or the deficit, but they will hurt millions of people and put this country on the path to ruin. Merely resisting Trump is no longer enough. The future of our nation is at stake and it’s time to fight for it.
