Despite the fact that his healthcare bill has seen several failures in gaining support and the American people overwhelmingly prefer Obamacare to whatever plan the GOP can offer, Donald Trump refuses to give up on Trumpcare.
More desperate than ever for a legislative win to mark his first six months in office, Trump concocted a new ‘plan’ to make Senate Republicans support his healthcare bill. In order to counter the fact that the Congressional Budget Office has announced that 22 million people will be stripped of their healthcare coverage under Trumpcare, Trump wants to use figures from biased conservative groups to make this information seem less shocking and more appealing. According to The Washington Post:
When Trump returns from Europe, he plans to counter the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office’s analysis of the legislation — which shows that 22 million fewer people would have insurance coverage by 2026 than under the current law — with figures and analyses from conservative groups and Republicans that show more benefits and less disruption, should the bill pass, according to a White House official familiar with the strategy.”
That’s right – Trump wants to use bogus, inaccurate numbers to get his disastrous bill passed. Clearly, Trump believes that the Republicans who are firmly against his bill will be stupid enough not to see right through this agenda.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what corrupt Trump is trying to do here – and why it won’t work. Regardless of what numbers and data Trump tries to manipulate his health care bill with, there is no getting around the fact that Medicaid funding will be cut substantially, and people will lose their coverage. Not to mention that Trumpcare is just as unpopular as America’s president – it’s gotten horribly low approval ratings, and most of America wants nothing to do with it. Even Trump’s own voters are mourning the possible loss of Obamacare.
Trump can try to bend the data around this legislation however he wants – but the truth is that this bill is a disaster and no one wants it. His continuing quest to get Trumpcare passed is now a pathetic move in desperation, and Trump should just quit now.
