The trials and tribulations of Chris Christie at the hands of Donald Trump came to a predictably humiliating conclusion just days after the election. The Trump campaign has reportedly booted the New Jersey governor from his role in leading the transition effort, replacing him with the man who once replaced him as vice presidential pick as well: Mike Pence.
Via the New York Times:
Mr. Christie had been in charge of the transition for the last several months, but the surprise nature of Mr. Trump’s victory made it critical to move more quickly to assemble a team.
The president-elect told advisers he wanted to tap Mr. Pence’s Washington experience and contacts to help move the process along, according to people familiar with the discussions. An executive committee, which will include members of Congress, will advise Mr. Pence as the process moves forward.
In short, Trump didn’t think Christie was up to the task. It’s a tough break for the man who traded in his dignity, his legacy, and his governorship to serve at the feet of Trump. All that groveling got him squat, and perhaps had the unintended effect of making Trump think less of him.
Throughout Trump’s campaign, Christie has had to put on a brave face at the hands of Trump’s bullying. The indignities Christie underwent were legendary. Trump mocked his weight. Trump forced him to grab his fast food orders. Trump made him leave the stage at rallies so he wouldn’t have a chance to share in the spotlight. And Christie had to grin and bear it. In those dark moments, he must have told himself that it was worth it for the spoils he would get if Trump won. What a life – craven and empty.
Perhaps this is why even as Christie marched to the ballots to vote for the man he worked tirelessly to elect, he looked like he was dead inside.

Because even a man as morally and spiritually bankrupt as Christie knows nothing good is coming from this. And now he doesn’t even get to enjoy it.
