Trump Decides To Tear Down The Playset Obama Built For Kids At The White House

Each First Family adds a little something of their character to the White House. Barack and Michelle created two iconic things on the White House lawn during their time in the home. Michelle made a vegetable garden to get people thinking about health and eco-sustainability. And the husband and wife picked out an outdoor playset so that when children visited they would have something to do while the parents talked business.

Originally built for Sasha and Malia, it’s become quite famous, sitting just outside the Oval Office window.

And it has been torn down, despite Obama’s efforts.

According to CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller, Obama offered to let Trump keep the wooden playset so that his 10-year-old son Barron and his young grandkids could enjoy it, but Trump told him he didn’t want it.

Instead, the Obamas donated the playset to a charity so at least somebody deserving would get to enjoy this little slice of White House history.

It’s unclear why Donald Trump decided he didn’t want the playset for his own young son. He has openly admitted that he doesn’t involve himself much in raising his children, so it’s possible he simply didn’t think of Barron’s enjoyment at all.

Or it’s possible that Trump, used to gold-plated everything and a desperate show of opulence, simply didn’t like the design of the playset that the Obamas painstakingly selected back in 2009. If that’s the case, look for a gawdy eye-sore to crop up in its place once Trump assumes office later this month.
