Just when you thought Donald Trump couldn’t sink any lower, he does this.
Former President Jimmy Carter is an honorable Christian man who has spent his post-presidency helping others.
Carter is revered among humanitarians and humanitarian organizations. His work with Habitat for Humanity is the most well-known among Americans, as Carter has often volunteered to help build homes for people in need. But he has done so much more.
Through his Carter Center, he has worked to advance human rights and alleviate human suffering. Carter has worked to end hunger, poverty, and disease across the globe and has been instrumental in negotiating peace deals with nations around the world.
He has done this for decades all while continuing as a Sunday school teacher at his church and personally fighting cancer that was discovered by his doctors a few years ago.
Unlike Donald Trump, Jimmy Carter is a hero and a role model who will be remembered long after he is gone.
And that’s apparently why Trump personally pressured the government of Argentina to rescind an award that was going to be presented to Carter in honor of his humanitarian efforts.
Carter was to receive the Order of the Liberator General San Martín, the equivalent of a Medal of Freedom in the United States.
But during a trip to visit Trump, Argentine President Mauricio Macri was told to drop the award.
According to the Buenos Aires Herald,
The official tribute, which had already been approved by the foreign ministry and was published in the Official Gazette, was cancelled after receiving a specific request by the US government, which would have suggested it would be better to delay it. Carter was to be given the award for his work in promoting human rights during Argentina’s last military dictatorship.
Apparently, Trump did not want the spotlight to be on anyone but himself while meeting with Macri in Washington DC.
But Trump, who is also a petty asshole obsessed with getting revenge, may have demanded that the award be rescinded to get back at Carter for blasting his lack of “moral and ethical principles” during the 2016 campaign.
In short, there is no real reason for Carter to be denied an honor he deserves. This is an example of a petty dictator messing with an American citizen’s life and work out of sheer jealousy and revenge.
It’s disgusting and Trump should be ashamed of himself.
