Donald Trump’s inability to tell the truth was something that was quite obvious right from the beginning of his presidential campaign. Now that Trump has been president for a few months, we’ve seen more dishonesty than ever from the unworthy POTUS and his administration, with each lie more surprising than the last. But earlier this week, Trump surprised everyone by just how far he’s willing to stretch the truth.
On Thursday, Trump made a press appearance to talk about his ill-advised decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Accord. To cover up and distract from the fact that this was a disastrous decision that would have devastating consequences for the entire planet, Trump tried to distract reporters by bragging about how his administration and Congress are moving forward on their tax reform bill. Trump said:
Our tax bill is moving along in Congress, and I believe it’s doing very well. I think a lot of people will be very pleasantly surprised.”
Here’s the thing about that, though – that tax reform bill hasn’t even been written yet. They haven’t even started working on it! Vanity Fair‘s Bess Levin reported:
(N)o such ‘tax bill’ exists. At least not yet, but that didn’t stop Trump from elaborating further.”
Levin then described how “delusional” Trump took this lie even further when Trump said:
The Republicans are working very, very hard. We’d love to have support from the Democrats, but we may have to go it alone. But it‘s going very well.”
That is seriously disgusting and further proves that nothing that comes out of Trump’s mouth can be trusted and taken as truth. And by the way, when Trump’s team actually does get around to that tax reform bill, it’s going to be a disaster. Earlier this year, Trump’s administration put out a one-page document that was so overly-simplified document, Levin called it a “CliffsNotes version of Trump’s tax proposal, which was notable for being a single-page, double-spaced series of bullet points.” Levin elaborated:
Does the president think that document is a bill?” It’s unclear what would be worse: if he simply made up a fictional bill that’s ‘moving along in congress’ or if he thinks the one-page outline that was hastily thrown together in a matter of days is what passes for legislation.”
Trump’s presidency just keeps getting worse every day.
