Following the tragic shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise, Ted Nugent promised that he would tone down his anti-Leftist rhetoric and urged all Democrats to take a “civility pledge” with him. Well, to the surprise of absolutely no one, the talented right-wing nut job went on a profanity laden anti-Obama rant during a performance on Friday night, breaking this pledge barely a month after making it.
Nugent was performing in Bonner Springs, at the Providence Medical Center Amphitheater, where they had to literally give tickets away for free in order to get people to actually come out to the show. In a desperate attempt to boost attendance, stacks of lawn tickets were placed at the box office and the public was invited to take as many as they wanted. If they chose, they were able to upgrade their tickets for $10 on the night of the show. Thanks to the ticket giveaway, an estimated 10,000 were in the audience on Friday night.
Nugent managed to keep his mouth shut for the better part of the evening and then he suddenly became unhinged. He apparently decided to say the hell with his “civility pledge” and launched into a bonkers rant, calling former President Obama “an absolute piece of sh*t.”
And before “Dog Eat Dog,” he praised the president and then told members of the military he was sorry they’d had to serve eight years under his predecessor, a commander-in-chief who was an “absolute piece of s***. … And if that offends you, you’re a piece of s***.” So much for civility.
In June, after Scalise was shot during a practice for a congressional baseball game, Nugent said that he was going to stop spouting his “hateful rhetoric.”
“[A]t the tender age of 69, my wife has convinced me that I just can’t use those harsh terms,” Nugent told the host of Curtis & Eboni on WABC 77AM Radio. “I can not, and I will not, and I encourage even my friend-slash-enemy on the left in the Democrat and liberal world that we have got to be civil to each other…And we have got to be more respectful to the other side…I am going to take a deep breath, and I am going to back it down, and if it gets fiery, if it gets hateful, I’m going away. I’m not gonna engage in that kind of hateful rhetoric anymore.”
From the looks of it, it seems that he must have forgotten about his promise to tone down the “hateful rhetoric” and said f*ck civility. Anyone surprised? So, we should be hearing an outcry from the right any minute now, right? Conservatives will come out in droves to scream about Nugent inciting violence against Obama, right? Right? Yeah, I’m not holding my breath.
