Republican Healthcare Plan Is GOP’s Newest Weapon Against Women

The Trump Administration has learned its lesson with their attempt to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA). You don’t go after the Republicans for their votes. You go after the companies that fund them.

Their new replacement will make insurance companies and their shareholders giggle like school girls.

According to CNN, The MacArthur Meadows Amendment, proposed by GOP Reps. Tom MacArthur and Mark Meadows, will ditch the protections provided by the ACA such as denial based on pre-existing conditions. The preexisting conditions include but are not limited to:

-Sexual Assault

-Postpartum Depression

-Victim of Domestic Violence

-Receiving a C-section

-Pregnancy

-Mental health issues tied to the pre-existing conditions

In a nutshell, if you have either been raped, currently pregnant or plan to become pregnant, a victim of domestic violence, had or will have a C-section you are S.O.L. If you have a mental health issue coming from rape, losing a child due to pregnancy or suffered domestic violence your insurance company does not have to cover you.

The amendment is a nuclear weapon in the war against women. The amendment attempts to cover itself by including the following provision:

Nothing in this Act shall be construed as permitting health insurance issuers to discriminate in rates for health insurance coverage by gender.

The amendment continues defending itself by maintaining its trojan horse appearance to not “limit access to health coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions.”

I am hesitant to call anything a “war on …” without adequate proof but when the majority of victims of a particular bill have been targeted solely because of their gender, what else can you call it? The time has come to call a spade a spade because as a man, the risks of me suffering either of the above conditions are slim to none.

If the words, “War on Women” don’t infuriate you then let me be politically correct and refer it what it is: “A Healthcare Amendment that legalizes gender-discriminatory policies.”
