Monday morning, Donald Trump was in the middle of his daily Twitter tantrum when he finally turned his bile cannon at Rep. Adam Schiff, the Democrat from California who will lead the House Intelligence Committee if the Democrats take control of the lower chamber during the midterms.
It was only a matter of time, really. Schiff has been uncompromising in his assessments from day one and has never couched factual statements in the haze of opinion, as members of Congress so often do. In fact, Rep. Schiff has been something of a stalwart against criticisms of the investigation, having been largely considered a moderate before the election of Donald Trump. It makes him both harder for Trump to assail and a much more attractive target. And Trump, in his first shot across the bow (my only ‘skiff’ joke ever, I promise), went full sail:
Sleazy Adam Schiff, the totally biased Congressman looking into “Russia,” spends all of his time on television pushing the Dem loss excuse!

Isn’t that cute? Donnie gave him a nickname of his very own. Granted, Trump’s nicknames for people aren’t nearly as endearing as George W. Bush’s were, but it has to feel like a bit of an accomplishment to get one nonetheless. Kind of like being blocked by Trump on Twitter.
First of all, let’s get the confusing part out of the way: “Russia” doesn’t belong in “quotes.” It is a “real place” that has a real “government” that really “colluded with the Trump campaign.” I know, he put it in quotes to convey that he feels the investigation is one of fabrications. But it’s not, and he does actually know it, so the quotes are just annoying.
But SLEAZY. How about that? I can’t decide if I would hang my head in shame if that were my nickname in high school, or paint it across the back of my Camaro. Schiff, however, did not embrace the moniker. I don’t think he even appreciated the 14 seconds it took Trump to search his 850-entry word bank for just the right adjective:
With respect Mr. President, the problem is how often you watch TV, and that your comments and actions are beneath the dignity of the office. https://t.co/NvZydYbnyW

Oh, come on, Mr. Schiff! Let Donnie watch one more show with us! Oh, you called his mom? Okay, well… I think I hear my own mom calling. Take care, Mr. Schiff!
