The Washington Post has just come out with a damning story against Republican leadership. You have to see this one.
Shortly before Trump won the Republican nomination, House Majority Leader made the accusation that Donald Trump was the recipient of monetary payments from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post.
He then said “Swear to God” as if that was his true beliefs on the matter at the time.
The conversation came about as soon as word broke that the Russians hacked the DNC. McCarthy (R-Calif.) asserted the following in a private conversation with other Republican leaders:
“I’ll guarantee you that’s what it is…The Russians hacked the DNC and got the opposition research that they had on Trump.”
House Speaker Paul Ryan heard the conversation and replied, as follows:
“This is an off the record.
No, leaks, alright?
This is how we know we’re a real family here.”
But – get this – McCarthy is now trying to say it’s all a joke. That might even be believed, however, but when they were first approached for comment on the story by the Washington Post, they completely denied the exchange. They told the Post: It never happened. There was no conversation. They even went as far as to call it fiction.
When The Post told them they had a transcript of the conversation, they tried to say that the transcript was false. Then – The Post hit them with the truth – they revealed that they had an actual recording in their possession and heard the conversation. That’s when they completely back peddled. Their new story, via Paul Ryan, is that it was all just a joke – an ineffective one at that.
Basically, they tried to cover it up. And – they lied about it.
Are we really to believe them now when they say it’s all just a joke now?
