It’s been a rough 24 hours for FBI Director James Comey. Not only did former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton call him out yesterday during an event for sabotaging her chances of winning the election with the letter that encouraged a new investigation into her emails, but Trump also had something to say about it late last night. Trump called Comey, his own FBI Director, a “phony” and said Comey was the “best thing that ever happened to Hillary Clinton in that he gave her a free pass for many bad deeds!”
Today, Comey seemed to respond to the criticism during his hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, in which he was questioned over his decision to open an investigation into Clinton so close to the election.
Senator Dianne Feinstein stated that the FBI “had an impact” on the election results due to Comey’s letter to Congress, and asked Comey just why he’d opened an investigation into Clinton when he didn’t even know what was on Anthony Weiner’s computer. Comey argued that the computer might have had Clinton’s missing emails from her time as Secretary of State and that not revealing them would have been “catastrophic” for the FBI. Then, Comey got honest and sounded regretful as he thought about the possibility that his letter had actually cost Clinton the election, and allowed an imbecile like Trump to be elected against all odds. Comey said:
Look, this is terrible. It makes me mildly nauseous to think that we might have had some impact on the election. But honestly, it wouldn’t change the decision.”
Comey’s letter, along with the interference of Russia and WikiLeaks, were the major downfalls for Clinton’s presidential campaign, and they happened so close to the end of the election that she could not recover. Clinton had the election in the bag before these events caused her to lose the trust of the American people. Now we’re stuck with an extremely unqualified moron who spends more time tweeting and golfing than actually doing his job.
