This week, Donald Trump’s administration is being absolutely rocked by secret meetings.
Not only did Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, get exposed for secretly meeting with American Muslim leaders before Trump’s inauguration, but Trump’s daughter Ivanka did something similar – with Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood. This meeting was confirmed by Dawn Laguens, vice president of Planned Parenthood. Laguens told Politico:
“The purpose of the meeting, from Cecile’s point of view, was to make sure that Ivanka fully understood what Planned Parenthood does, how it is funded, and why it would be a terrible idea for Planned Parenthood to be removed from being able to see Medicaid patients. The main thing that Cecile Richards was doing was explaining that the money doesn’t actually go to abortions — we get reimbursed the same way a hospital does. We were clearing up misinformation about how this works.”
Of course, Ivanka could have found out on her own that funding doesn’t actually go to abortions in Planned Parenthood if she’d only taken a few seconds to do a quick Google search – but then again, she is Trump’s daughter and the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
The fact that Ivanka kept this from Trump is sure to make him furious, particularly as his administration is currently falling apart with the various anonymous leaks and secrecy that threatens to dismantle it any day now.
Trump’s overall position on women’s rights has been misogynistic and outdated to say the least, however his position on Planned Parenthood has flip-flopped many times over the last few years. But judging on the latest anti-woman policies he has tried to put into effect since getting into the White House, something tells us he won’t be happy with Ivanka’s meeting with an organization that helps women.
