Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) has never been a fan of Donald Trump. During the 2016 campaign, she wrote a scathing op-ed in the Washington Post detailing why she could not and would not vote for Trump, and why she didn’t think he should ever be president. However, months later, here we are. Trump is in the Oval Office and wreaking havoc on the nation and the world. Collins is still unhappy with Trump – perhaps even more than she was last year.
Now, despite her many criticisms of Trump, Senator Collins has always remained civil and careful in her public comments. However, even the most cautious of public servants are not immune to hot mics. While speaking to Democratic Senator Jack Reed (R-Rhode Island). Here is some of the transcript from that conversation, as reported by the Washington Post:
Whenever there was a grant, they just X-ed it out, with no metric, no thinking about it, no nothing,” she tells Democratic Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island. “It’s just incredibly irresponsible.”
“I think he’s crazy,” Reed says. And Collins adds, “I’m worried.”
Collins also mocked Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas), who has said if the “female Senators” who are going up against the health care bill the GOP is putting forth were men from Texas, he’d challenge them to a duel. The conversation between Collins and Reed was even more hilarious on that one. Again, via the Washington Post:
Did you see the one who challenged me to a duel?” Collins asks.
“I know,” Reed replies. “Trust me. Do you know why he challenged you to a duel? ‘Cause you could beat the s— out of him.”
Collins continues, “I don’t mean to be unkind but he’s so unattractive it’s unbelievable.”
This is awesome. I mean, we knew Collins was a moderate who bucked the GOP trend, but this is pretty far out there for her. We now know what she thinks of not only the so-called “president” of her own party but a member of Congress that wears the same label she wears as well. And she did all of this open mocking with a DEMOCRAT to boot.
Senator Collins, come on over to the blue side. Clearly, that’s where you belong. We’d be happy to have you.
