In the clearest sign that congressional Republicans have no interest in serving as a constitutional “check” on Trump’s disastrous administration, conservative lawmakers are vowing to not investigate the White House for its involvement in the Michael Flynn scandal.
It seems the GOP is hoping the scandal dissipates now that Flynn has resigned (or was fired, depending on who you ask), but this is likely just the tip of the iceberg. For one thing, what Flynn did was almost certainly illegal. Secretly telling Russia to ignore American sanctions until Trump could remove them then lying about it is a pretty big no-no. Some might even call it treason. The intelligence community was so disturbed that they quietly informed the White House that Flynn was bad news – a warning that fell on deaf ears.
In the waning days of the Obama administration, James R. Clapper Jr., who was the director of national intelligence, and John Brennan, the CIA director at the time, shared Yates’s concerns and concurred with her recommendation to inform the Trump White House. They feared that “Flynn had put himself in a compromising position” and thought that Pence had a right to know that he had been misled, according to one of the officials, who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters.
But the cowards in the GOP are taking a see no evil, hear no evil approach to things.
There is the GOP’s lead coward, Paul Ryan, who had this to say:
Paul Ryan won't call for new investigation of Flynn, saying he'll leave it to the admin to explain what happened. https://t.co/4hT5GZ4TcL

Sen. Tom Cotton, who spent his time in office on a witch hunt against Obama, gave a massive shrug.

The House “oversight committee” chair is perhaps the biggest hypocrite of them all. Jason Chaffetz is truly in a league of his own. After spending years “investigating” Hillary Clinton and her actions in Benghazi then promising he had “two more years” worth of investigations lined up against her if she won, Chaffetz is now refusing to investigate Trump for any of his scandals.

And apparently, the Republicans are more upset that Trump got caught than that he was involved in this to begin with. In an interview with CNN, Republican Rep. Devin Nunes said he doesn’t care about the Trump administration’s ties to Russia but does care about the people leaking Trump’s ties to Russia. He vowed to go after the people doing their patriotic duty by leaking Trump’s massive scandals to the public.
The Republican Party in 2017 is perhaps the very definition of greed-induced cowardice this country has ever seen.
