Right now, the whole nation is buzzing with anxiety over the news that Donald Trump is likely to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects nearly 800,000 kids who arrived in the United States illegally through no fault of their own. Many lawmakers, including Republicans, are blasting the decision as a misguided one – to say the least. Now, GOP strategist and adviser for the Jeb Bush campaign, Sally Bradshaw, is ripping not just Trump over this cruel and heartless decision, but the entire GOP.
Bradshaw has been a Republican for three decades, but says she will not consider herself one as long as “anti-woman, anti-Hispanic, anti-black, anti-anything that would bring the country together” Trump is the titular head of the GOP. Bradshaw says of the elected Republicans and their handling of Trump:
Those in Republican leadership who have enabled his behavior by standing silent or making excuses for him deserve the reckoning that will eventually come for the GOP. It makes me terrifically sad to be honest — sad for the party of ideas that I supported for over 30 years — even more sad for the country and the fact that we can no longer have a credible and important debate about issues that will lead to problem solving.”
Sally Bradshaw is correct. Donald Trump has cemented the GOP’s place in modern society as the party of racists (though that is what they always were). This rescinding of DACA, as well as the talk of limiting even legal immigration, is nothing more than racism and xenophobia thinly veiled as some kind of legitimate public policy. Trump’s base wants America to become a white ethno-state, and Trump is doing all he can to make that disgusting fever dream come true.
Hopefully, more influential Republicans come out as Sally Bradshaw has done and resists this openly and profoundly racist regime being headed up by Donald Trump.
