Republicans just pissed off one of their longtime donors because they are cowards.
Donald Trump has been given pass after pass by Republicans long before taking office. In fact, Republicans are so desperate to protect their power that they have made every effort to protect Trump and ignore what he says and does.
Now Republicans are in seriously deep shit because the Russia scandal continues to get even worse as investigators have been given proof of collusion by Donald Trump’s own son. Trump even continues to bully Republicans into trying to pass a terrible healthcare bill.
Time after time, Republicans have had the chance to distance themselves from Trump, even stand up to him. But each time they shrink from their constitutional duty and kiss his ass instead.
That will no longer fly with Big time GOP donor Mike Fernandez, and Republicans are definitely paying a massive price for it.
Fernandez has spent millions of dollars helping Republicans win elections. He is a coveted donor. But no longer.
As far as he is concerned, his wallet is closed until Republicans grow a pair.
“All the Republicans who hide behind the flag and hide behind the church, they don’t have the f*cking balls to do what it takes,” Fernandez told Politico.
“I am out of the political process,” he continued in an email reply he sent to a fundraiser that requested a donation. “Too disgusted, too expensive, too supportive of ego maniacs whose words have the value of quicksand. It is demoralizing to me to see adults worshiping a false idol. I can’t continue to write checks for anyone. I know what it’s like to lose a country.”
Indeed, Fernandez and his family were exiled from Cuba on Christmas Day in 1964 not long after Fidel Castro took power.
But Fernandez saved his most brutal words for Trump.
“If I was the doctor and knew what that baby would do, I’d have made sure it never would have seen the light of day,” Fernandez said, adding that Trump is an “abortion of a human being.”
Ouch. Donald Trump is going to lose his shit over this. But Republicans should be panicking.
Obviously, this is really bad news for Republicans. If one of their donors is fed up with them, there are probably more GOP donors who feel the same way as well.
That means it’s certainly possible that these donors could switch parties or at the very least not give Republicans the money they need to compete against Democrats in future elections. And since the majority of Americans say that they are ready for Democrats to take over the Senate, 2018 is likely the first election year in which Republicans will feel the campaign finance sting, and it could very well cost them dearly.
