In the wake of the Russian scandal, former presidents George W Bush and Bill Clinton broke their silence on Donald Trump by taking jabs at him during a forum on Thursday night as they named characteristics that Trump could not obtain.
Bush replied ‘humility’ in answer to the question about presidential qualities, and added – ‘I think it’s really important to know what you don’t know and listen to people who do know what you don’t know.’
Clinton said anyone holding the highest office in the land needs to keep focused on their goals.
‘Realize it’s about the people, not you,’ he said. ‘A lot of these people who are real arrogant in office, they forget. Mocking Donald Trump he says:
“You don’t want to say, “God, look at all those people I beat.”
He added that being president is a selfless act; it’s all about the American people.
You want to be able to say “things were better off when I quit, kid´s had a better future, things were coming together”.
Clinton said when he left office he told incoming President Bush that he would offer him help and treat him with respect.
Bush and Clinton said they have enjoyed their lives after the presidency but would not trade their current status for their eight years in office.
