Donald Trump Jr. went to his safe place on the Sean Hannity show to explain why he was in contact with a Kremlin-connected lawyer in order to join forces with a hostile foreign government to help his father’s campaign. Making matters even worse for the alleged president’s son, he tweeted out copies of the emails – which included Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and his Dad’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, both of whom have their own scandals to deal with.
Junior told Hannity that he “probably would have done things a little differently” when he met with the Russian attorney during his father’s 2016 presidential campaign in June.
“This [was] pre-Russia fever. This [was] pre-Russia mania,” Junior said. “I don’t think my sirens went [off] or my antenna went up at this time because it wasn’t the issue that it’s been made out to be over the last nine months, ten months.”
But then Junior described the scandal as “a nothing,” adding, “I wouldn’t have even remembered it until you started scouring through this stuff. It was literally just a wasted 20 minutes, which was a shame.”
Flashback (since Junior spoke of scouring the Internet, check out the date on this tweet):
Back to the show, thankyouverymuch.
In one of the messages to Junior, music publicist Rob Goldstone wrote that Russian officials were offering “some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary [Clinton]” as part of “Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”
In the email response, Junior said, “If it’s what you say I love it.”
“I had been reading about scandals that people were probably underreporting for a long time, so maybe it was something that had to do with one of those things,” Junior told Hannity after he was asked about his reaction to Goldstone’s email. “I didn’t know if there was any credibility, I didn’t know if there was anything behind it, I can’t vouch for the information. Someone sent me an email. I can’t help what someone sends me. I read it, I responded accordingly.”
Donald Trump tweeted early this morning, “My son Donald did a good job last night. He was open, transparent and innocent. This is the greatest Witch Hunt in political history. Sad!”

He was not being ‘transparent’ because he was trying to beat the New York Times to the punch after the paper promised to release his emails. As for a ‘witch hunt’ which Trump oddly capitalized, that’s the wrong word to describe something which actually happened. And it was revealed in the middle of one of the biggest scandals since Watergate.
“And you have nothing to hide,” Hannity told Junior, “That means you’ll testify under oath, all of that?”
“All of it,” Trump Jr. responded.
Put that boy under oath, please.
Junior had nothing of substance to offer on Hannity’s show. Right wing talking points essentially amount to this: He didn’t get any damaging information on Hillary so it’s OK, but that’s not how this works. That’s not based in reality.
