Like many of the ridiculous lies that Donald Trump tells about his predecessor to make up for the fact that he will never be half the leader that former President Barack Obama was, Trump’s wiretapping accusations have just been called out.
On Friday, the Department of Justice filed a brief that clearly stated there was no evidence that Obama wiretapped Trump’s offices in the Trump Tower before the 2016 election. While that won’t surprise most of us, it’s particularly hilarious for Trump to be exposed as a liar by the DOJ, as the country was shocked when Trump first made the accusations back in March. No one will forget when Trump tweeted several months ago:
“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my “wires tapped” in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!”
“Is it legal for a sitting President to be “wire tapping” a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!”
Those idiotic claims ended up screwing Trump over as the FBI launched an investigation into the matter. Thanks to Trump’s inability to control his outbursts on Twitter, the investigation also pulled many of his aides and family members into the FBI investigation.
Of course, Trump has easily become his own biggest obstacle during his presidency. It’s nice to have some of his lies catch up to him as the FBI’s investigations close in. The brief states:
“Both FBI and NSD confirm that they have no records related to wiretaps as described.”
For reasons set forth above, the FBI has no record responsive to the “wiretap” portion of Plaintiff’s request to the extent that the request seeks records related to the President’s March 4th tweet.”
It won’t be long before Trump calls the Department of Justice “fake news.”
