Dem Senator: Trump Was Absolutely Trying To Intimidate A Witness By Threatening Comey With Tapes

After Donald Trump admitted on Thursday that he didn’t actually have tapes of his conversations with fired FBI Director James Comey (surprise, surprise), Sen. Ed Markey said Trump’s threats most certainly look like witness intimidation.

Speaking to MSNBC’s Greta Van Susteren on Thursday evening, Sen. Markey said that Trump is “disrespectful” of the presidency and the entire federal government.

The president is like Geraldo Rivera saying he was going to open Al Capone’s vault and of course there was nothing inside,” the Massachusetts Democrat said.

When Van Susteren asked if he thought Trump’s threats of tapes qualified as intimidation of a witness, Markey said that in his opinion it definitely did.

“It does run to intimidation of a witness, which is why Robert Mueller must investigate the entirety of this tapes incident,” Markey said. When he was pressed further on the matter, the senator did not hold back and his answer was blunt.

I don’t think there’s any other explanation than he’s a bully, and he doesn’t want this Russia investigation to continue,” Markey said. “He only is matched by Wile E. Coyote in terms of self-inflicted wounds and he just keeps acting this way.”

According to Sen. Markey, Trump has no respect for the office he holds as commander in chief or the government he is supposed to be leading and he just “can’t stop” demeaning the presidency.

“He doesn’t respect the Congress. He doesn’t respect the judiciary. He doesn’t respect his own office,” Markey said. “It’s just disrespectful of the office.”
