Former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta just gave an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN and made quite the statement when he said that President Trump was not acting in the national interest of the United States.
He was referring to comments from leaked transcripts of President Trump’s phone calls with the leaders of Mexico and Australia.
“The fundamental problem here is that presidents should say both the same thing to world leaders as they do to the American people. That’s a problem.
But, it’s also clear from his own comments that he had a much more pleasant conversation with Putin than he did with some of our allies, which sends a message that the president was somehow trying to develop a warmer relationship with Putin than he was with our allies, which is not frankly in the interests of the United States in terms of our national security.”
Take a look at one ‘crazy’ phone call Trump had with U.S. ally Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull about refugees coming into the United States. Trump was a complete ass, there’s really no other way to put it, and it’s embarrassing. He’d rather have a pleasant conversation with enemies of the United States than with our closest allies.
Just read the transcript: Prime Minister Turnbull exercised total professionalism even though Trump put him down on the call.
In Trump’s comments with Mexico, he also said his campaign promises about Mexico paying for the wall weren’t entirely accurate.
When President Pena Nieto refused to say Mexico would pay for the wall, Trump said: “You cannot say that to the press. The press is going to go with that and I cannot live with that. You cannot say that to the press because I cannot negotiate under those circumstances.”
