Donald Trump has several of the most abrasive advisors and staffers that any administration has ever seen, and one of the most hated members of Trump’s corrupt tribe got into shouting match with reporters earlier today during a press briefing.
This afternoon, Trump adviser Stephen Miller threw a fit and attacked CNN White House Correspondent Jim Acosta after the reporter asked a question about the Trump administration’s new immigration policy. Acosta asked Miller:
What you’re proposing here or what the president is proposing does not sound like it’s in keeping with American tradition when it comes to immigration. The Statue of Liberty says ‘Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.’ It doesn’t say anything about speaking English or being able to be a computer programmer. Aren’t you trying to change what it means to be an immigrant if you are telling them they have to speak English. Can’t they learn to speak English when they get here?”
Miller blew up at Acosta, and refused to answer what was a very straightforward question. Instead, Miller decided to focus on the Statue of Liberty part of Acosta’s question. Miller said:
I don’t want to go off on a whole thing about history here. The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of light in the world. It’s a symbol of American liberty light in the world. The poem you are referring to is not part of the original Statue of Liberty. It was added later.”
The two went back and forth for a bit, with Miller repeatedly attacking Acosta like a high school bully. You can watch the footage below, which certainly signals a new low in the Trump administration:
And apparently, Acosta was far from the only reporter that Miller attacked today. Here are some of the reactions to Acosta’s heated exchange with Miller, as well as some others:
