President Donald Trump wants everyone to believe that the talk of the town on his trip to meet with world leaders at the G-20 Summit is Hillary Clinton’s former campaign chairman.

He sent out the following tweet early Friday, claiming that much as true:

“Everyone here is talking about why John Podesta refused to give the DNC server to the FBI and the CIA. Disgraceful!”

While it’s hard to believe that was the “hot” topic, White House aides just confirmed that they have no idea what Trump is talking about. In fact, they claim he was the only one in the room that brought it up or even discussed it.

“I have no idea what he’s talking about,” one messaged The Daily Beast.

According to those present, the only world leader at the summit who was actively bringing up Podesta and “the DNC server” was the U.S. president.

“Trump himself brought it up” randomly in person while talking to staff, said a senior official on the trip. Other advisers in the room just nodded politely and ignored him as he started gossiping about his campaign’s involvement in Russia’s hacking of the 2016 election.

Shortly after Trump sent out the tweet, Podesta himself responded, saying we had a “whack job POTUS,” advising him to “get a grip,” and “get your head in the game” for his important meeting. Then, Podesta laid it on him:

“The Russians committed a crime when they stole my emails to help get you elected President,” Podesta wrote. “Maybe you might try to find a way to mention that to President Putin.”

What’s even more interesting about Trump’s accusation against Podesta is that any cyber attack on his email by the Russians had nothing to do with the separate (although equally important) attack on the DNC.

“What gave it away, [the president] not knowing the difference between the DNC and the Clinton campaign, or the idea that a dozen other heads of state don’t know the difference either?” one senior administration official remarked, casting doubt on Trump’s claim.

White House aides may have just outed Trump for his bold-faced lie, but we’re pretty sure the world already knew it was bogus.
