On Tuesday, Kellyanne Conway was once again unleashed upon the earth to defend Donald Trump’s rather suspicious decision to fire FBI Director James Comey in the midst of an investigation into his dealings with Russia.
Conway joined Anderson Cooper to sell the story that Trump chose to fire Comey right after grand jury subpoenas were announced because of how grossly unfair the now-former Director was to Hillary Clinton. While Cooper managed to keep his composure, his eyes were completely unwilling to participate in this farcical interview and appear to attempt on multiple occasions to leave his face and go vacationing.
“As a candidate, Donald Trump praised James Comey,” Cooper said. “Donald Trump talked about this on the campaign all the time. All of sudden the White House is concerned about James Comey’s handling of Hillary Clinton’s email?”
“I think you’re looking at the wrong set of facts here,” Conway told Cooper prompting a gigantic eye roll. “You’re going back to the campaign. This man is president of the United States.”
Finally, Cooper fell back on four magic words that apply to everything Conway says at any time:
That makes no sense.”
“He said one thing as candidate and now he’s concerned as president?” Cooper asked incredulously.
“It makes complete sense because he has lost confidence in the FBI director,” Conway told him.
“Clearly, this White House is under investigation, the people around the president are under investigation,” Cooper said. “You would agree with that, yes?”
“No, I don’t,” Conway replied. “I know that some are obsessed with the word Russia, Russia, Russia.”
Cooper’s eyebrows shot up, apparently attempting to join his eyes in their escape attempt.
“I’m around the president,” she continued. “I’m not under investigation.”
“Here’s what happened today,” Conway idiotsplained. “Today, not in the campaign, in the White House, the president of the United States―”
“So that person doesn’t exist anymore?” Cooper asked. “Candidate Donald Trump, that’s a fictional character we are no longer allowed to refer to? We can only refer to the Donald Trump who exists today?”
“Anderson, I’ll ignore how unkind that is,” Conway told him. “All I’ll say is as president of the United States, he needs confidence in his FBI director and he doesn’t have it.”
At this point, Cooper could barely contain himself. Watch it happen below:
