Former FBI Director James Comey has taunted former boss and the man who ended his tenure at the FBI, President Trump on Twitter. Comey took to Twitter on Friday morning to quote Amos 5:24, which says, “But justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream!”

The tweet was in response to former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn pleading guilty to charges of lying to the FBI. The guilty plea is the ultimate vindication for Comey, who was unceremoniously dumped by Trump in May. The controversial move was one of a number of changes made by Trump and was ultimately seen as an attempt to kill off any investigation into Trump’s links with Russia.

Trump’s attempts to stop any investigation into his links with Russia have ultimately failed, though at times it appeared that removing Comey had stopped an investigation. Trump and Comey had a tenuous relationship from the very beginning. Meetings between the men settled little and only hardened their resolve against one another. Ultimately, as Trump is the president, Comey had little chance of gaining the upper hand.
On Friday, Comey gets to enjoy what he will hope is the beginning of the end of President Trump’s chaotic presidency. Flynn’s testimony will harm the president’s credibility further and Comey, somewhat understandably, is enjoying his moment of vindication.
The Comey investigation was doomed from the start, but ultimately Comey did kick off what has snowballed into a special investigation by Robert Mueller. Trump now looks more doomed than ever. Now we must prepare for the inevitable reaction on Twitter from the egomaniac president. A man who always has to have the last word will not be able to ignore Comey’s attack. Trump’s fragile ego and temperament have long been his worst features and Friday’s news will do nothing to lessen them.
