According to Trump spokeswoman, Katrina Pierson, the violence being seen at Trump’s rallies is a manifestation of the American people “having a head-on collision with the truth.”
What truth is that? Who knows. This is the same woman who once justified calling President Obama a “half-breed” by claiming that she too was a horse, so if you approach her remarks expecting deep, thoughtful explorations of epistemology, you’re in the wrong place.
You can’t handle the truth
Whenever someone says they have “the Truth,” my mind goes back to Jack Nicolason’s famous line near the end of A Few Good Men. The truth about a lot of issues is that the truth is subjective. But that’s small comfort for small minds, who prefer the lie of epistemological certainty, with an emphasis on “certainty.”
One of those small minds is Katrina Pierson, the spokeswoman for another small mind, Donald Trump, who speaks to a whole bunch of small minds, namely, his base.
After protesters shut down traffic during a clash with Trump supporters at an Arizona rally, Fox News host Jeanine Pirro asked the spokeswoman for the Trump camp if the protests were an attempt to nominate another candidate or simply create “anarchy.”
Pierson said that they were the latter:
I think a lot of it is anarchy, but I think more importantly this is organized chaos. They are trying to create a public perception of violence to scare people [away from] supporting Mr. Trump.
Pierson argued that conservatism had been “absent in the community” since Reagan left office. This absence gave rise to a “militant left in this political [sic] correct society where it’s okay for them to use violence as an intimidation tactic or just yell ‘racist’ or ‘Hitler’ to smear someone’s character.”
Ah, the old “I know you are, but what am I?” argument followed by accusations of “militarism.” Isn’t it sad when the highest form of rhetorical logic you have is so sophisticated that nobody outside of primary school takes it seriously?
Pirro didn’t necessarily buy the argument, however, noting that if it were a result of some mythical “militant left” they’d be targeting Cruz and other conservative candidates. Instead, they’re focusing exclusively on Trump. And for good reason, too, it turns out.
Pierson wasn’t moved by Pirro’s logic:
You have people like MoveOn.org and Black Lives Matter and some of these anarchy groups, that’s all they do is look for fights. They’ve been provoking people all over the country long before Mr. Trump entered this race.
This is the American people having a head-on collision with the truth, which is that the Democratic side is not on the side of the people, and the militant left is their army. And what we’re seeing now is that people supporting Mr. Trump, they’re not afraid. They’re going to go out there and they’re going to fight for American values and American families because that’s who needs to come first.
Here’s what I want to know: does this woman have a random word generator on her phone that she uses to write her dialogue before she goes on air? Because those are words, but I’ll be damned if that patriotic dribble means anything significant. And that is the truth.
