Although admittedly, he was on his “Thank You Tour,” Donald Trump made a bizarre show of appreciation in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Thursday night when he praised “smart” African Americans for not coming out to vote on election day and in turn, handing him the big win.
Trump shared the slap-in-the-face thank you to a cheering, mostly white crowd, saying that the black voters had listened to his message and so,
“they didn’t come out to vote for Hillary. They didn’t come out. That was the big thing, so thank you to the African-American community.”
The comment, although extremely condescending and divisive, sadly has some merit as only 8 percent of African Americans who voted in the 2016 Election did so for Trump, where Hillary Clinton took home 88 percent of the votes. Trump and his supporters allegedly worked hard to discourage black voter turnout, which he admits was one of the main reasons he won.
Trump continues to be the least popular president-elect in more than twenty years. According to a CBS poll released Thursday, more than 33 percent of Americans believe he will suck as a president. This is over twice as many who believed that George W. Bush would do a poor job in December 2000, and look how that turned out.
Apparently, Trump still sees the election as some sort of reality TV Show where it’s not the most capable or even the most popular contestant who wins, but the one who has the most “fans” call in. He still doesn’t realize that he has now been given the great honor and responsibility of representing and leading ALL Americans.
