Since Donald Trump began his run at the Presidency, right-wing radio host Michael Savage has been on board. Savage is a conspiracy theorist who never met a crazy idea he didn’t like. As long as it’s a conservative, right-wing idea. Especially if it blames President Obama for something, anything. Savage thinks Trump is the “antidote” to Obama’s “toxic snake poison.” It’s pretty obvious that Savage loves him some Trump. Savage is one of the greatest butt-kissers among the Trumpites and this latest Savage Nation show was no different.
Because of this, The Donald likes to come on Savage’s radio show. Kissing up to his host on Thursday, Trump called himself a loyal listener and told Savage that does a “great job.” If Savage believes that Trump has ever listened to more than a sound bite of his show, Trump has a casino to sell him.
Once the mutual admiration stuff was done, Savage brought up immigration, one of Trump’s favorite issues to flog. Savage sets it up — noting that Obama is “flooding the country” with lazy immigrants who are bringing disease to America, ones which we had eradicated until those losers showed up (one word, dumbass: anti-vaxers). Then the softball question comes: “It’s a disaster to bring in diseased immigrants, don’t you agree?” And Trump is off:
Well that’s what’s happening and people don’t like talking about it and certainly it’s not politically correct to talk about it and that’s why they don’t do it, because everything we do today has to do with political correctness. If something’s a little bit off, off just a little bit, they say, ‘Oh, please don’t mention that.’ Even my people tell me ‘don’t mention that’ and I decide to mention things anyway, even though I know it’s going to end up being a firestorm, I mention them anyway. But there’s something that’s one of the other elements, and the people are pouring into this country and, in many cases they’re not well people, in many respects.
That’s a word salad to give Sarah Palin a run for her money. Trump is basically saying that we don’t talk about immigrants being diseased when they come here. News flash: immigrants are vetted in a two-year process and, yes, one of the criteria is being healthy. They even made a video that explains the screening process. You know, for people who don’t understand big words like “assessment” and “biometric.”
What Savage and Trump mean when they say immigrants are “diseased” and “not well” is that they are not like them. Not white, male and privileged. They write off refugees because they are brown or not Christian. Saying that they are “diseased” is a dog whistle for the bigots.
Donald Trump has never hidden the fact that he is a racist. People like Michael Savage love Trump because of that and because he is so out in the open with it. Michael Savage is so in bro-love with Trump that he asked The Donald to induct him into the Radio Hall of Fame in November. (Makes you wonder how low their standards have fallen) Trump, put on the spot on the air, hemmed and hawed and said he couldn’t promise but assured Savage that he deserved the accolade.
I really don’t think that Michael Savage could be more obsequious. You can almost see the bootlicking and the fawning. It’s disgusting, really. And, when all is said and done and Trump loses the election, do you think he will give a flying fig about Michael Savage? Exactly. Kind of pitiful, really.
