While Trump is lighting up Twitter with ridiculous demands for the cast of the Broadway Musical “Hamilton” to apologize for “rudely harassing” Vice President-elect, Mike Pence, during a post curtain call lecture, Fox News host Jeanine Pirro has taken it a step further rolling out a stunningly racist tirade on the black actor who delivered the speech.
Visibly seething during a segment on Fox, the former judge blasted the treatment of Pence by cast member Brandon Victor Dixon as both “outrageous” and “embarrassing,”adding:
“What happened in that theater one block from this studio was out-and-out reverse racism and teed-up hate! For a man who has done nothing to deserve this inappropriate and disgusting behavior.”
Pirro was specifically referring to Dixon and his hopeful plead to Pence:
“We sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights. But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our Americans values and to work on behalf of all of us. All of us. We truly thank you for sharing this show, this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men and women of different colors, creeds, and orientations.”
Pirro went on to chastise the cast for using Hamilton, a play about “American history” as a “political bully pulpit” as she continued her rant. That’s where things went from stupid to racist. By the end, Pirro was calling for the black actor to stick to dancing and rapping:
“Last night violates everything that you say that you stand for. You’re Hamiltonians, you’re students of American history. Why not hip hop about the electoral college or is that the part of the Constitution that you just want to ignore? Maybe you want to dance about Hamilton, why not dance about that!”
Now irate, the Fox News host, went on to suggest that the black actor, “not lecture this man (Pence),” presumptuously adding, “You may know a little about hip hop and dancing around a stage.”
Diminishing African Americans by insisting they focus solely on dancing or singing and not participate in intellectual or political pursuits is a racist trope that goes back all the way to slavery. Sadly, the undertones remain to this day. In 2012, Sarah Palin dabbled in it when she accused Obama of “shucking and jiving” to avoid questions on Benghazi.
Pirro ends the disgusting tirade with:
“I majored in American history and I saw the play ‘Hamilton’ and I loved it. But you just took the fun, the enjoyment and the memory of that play right out of me, which might explain why the number one hashtag is that’s trending right now is #BoycottHamilton.”
The most infuriating thing about this is that the speech delivered by Dixon, who was surrounded by the entire cast, was done with eloquence and grace, something the Fox News host knows nothing about and has no right to comment on.
