It must be a day that ends in “y” because yet another anti-gay extremist has been “outed” as a real-life gay person! Reverend Matthew Makela, formerly of St. John’s Lutheran Church and School, resigned abruptly after he was discovered in all his glory cruising for some c*ck on Grindr.
Before his bio was removed from the church’s web site, Makela was described as an associate pastor who loves “family, music, home improvement, gardening and landscaping, and sports.”
Makela confirmed the authenticity of the screenshots in an e-mail exchange with Queerty, but declined to comment. He did, however, assure the publication that he “resigned” from his position and informed his wife and senior pastor of his love for manflesh.
Shortly after Makela’s resignation, his church warned its congregants not to read the details of their beloved pastor’s love of phallus.
“It is my grief to inform you that Pastor Makela announced his resignation as a pastor of St. John’s through a letter that was read in worship on Sunday, May 17,” reads an open letter Senior Pastor Daniel Kempin posted to the church’s web site.
“To make matters worse,” the the letter continues, “the details of sin that have been kept confidential are being posted online by those who seek to do harm to the Makela family and to St. John’s. This is taking an already difficult situation and making it even more painful.”
I write this to you to warn you that you may be confronted with the details of the sin, and to remind you that sin is never pretty. The [F]acebook pages associated with St. John’s have been taken down in an attempt to remove the opportunity for malicious posters to have access to St. John’s members, but the internet and age of communication being what it is, I have no way of guaranteeing that you will not come across this information in some way.
Kempin offered congregants some advice on how to proceed in the face of this horrific evil:
- Don’t panic. This changes nothing. Matt is still forgiven and he is still loved, and we will do what we can to stand by him and the family as they face this spiteful attack of shame. God is bigger than this and will see us through.
- Don’t respond. Those who are trying to shake up the congregation are doing so, at least in part, to generate traffic to their website. If you click on a website to see, or respond to what is being said — even in a positive way — you are only rewarding those who are trying to shame the Makelas.
- Please know that the leadership of St. John’s will be forthright with any information the members need to have. However, we do not intend to use the internet as the primary means of communication at this point.
- Be patient and trust God. This too shall pass.
- In the meantime, consider the advice of scripture: “Be very careful, then, how you live, not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil.”
Makela’s vehement anti-gay ramblings are well documented. In the comment section of an op-ed written by Pastor Dan Dickerson titled A Stand For The Truth, Makala praised the homophobic writer, adding that homosexuality is just like alcoholism:
“Thank you, Pastor Dickerson, for believing the Word of God and loving people enough to reveal God’s will for their lives and also His plan of salvation for all believe in Jesus… I love people who have same sex attraction, and so does God. The proof is in the sacrifice He made for all of us who sin… We don’t tell a person born with tendencies to abuse alcohol to keep on giving in to his innate desires because he can’t help it. We try to help him in his struggle.”
When Planet Fitness terminated the membership of a bigot who complained that a transgender woman used the gym’s women’s locker room, Makela had this to say:
Recently, an extremist anti-gay lawmaker was caught cruising for some man meat, as well. North Dakota Rep. Randy Boehning (R) was caught with his d*ck out — literally — when he was busted exchanging penis pics with another man on Grindr.
“That’s what gay guys do on gay sites, don’t they?” Boehning said after he was outed in retaliation for a vote against an anti-discrimination bill.
That’s how things happen on Grindr. It’s a gay chat site. It’s not the first thing you do on that site. That’s what we do, exchange pics on the site.
A recent study revealed that homophobic men are more likely to be aroused by two dudes getting it on than are non-homophobes. While all subjects demonstrated increased penile circumference while watching straight and lesbian erotic materials, only the homophobic men experienced arousal while watching material that showed two men getting down and dirty.
Though they became “excited” while watching the gay erotica, not a single homophobic male actually reported enjoying it.
How many more extreme homophobes must be outed before they just decide to be honest with themselves — or, at minimum, to stop trying to hurt their own people. Not everyone has the benefit of living in the closet.
