Sorry, Florida, time to reset your “Days Without Embarrassing America” counter back to zero as a man running for the Brevard County school board had to be carried out by the police when he went off on a crazed tangent about erect penises:
School Board candidate Dean Paterakis was charged with disrupting a school function and resisting an officer without violence Tuesday after he was ejected from a school board meeting dealing with LGBT issues.
Paterakis was released on $750 bond before midnight on the two misdemeanor charges.
Paterakis was asked by School Board chairman Andy Ziegler to step away from the speakers’ podium after making what Ziegler said were inappropriate remarks. A school district security officer asked him to leave, and Paterakis refused. Sheriff’s deputies then stepped in to ask Paterakis to leave, according to a statement from sheriff’s spokesman Cpl. Dave Jacobs.
So what, exactly was Paterakis ranting about? During a meeting which was about, among other things, scheduling a public hearing about a non-discrimination policy for LGBT students, Paterakis tried to make a completely irrelevant point about penises and was shut down. Specifically, he referred to a 2014 incident where a teacher had hooked up his phone to a projector in the classroom to show his students. Apparently, he’d forgotten he had a picture of the dreaded male genitalia on his phone and the class got an eyeful. This, to Paterakis, makes the teacher a pedophile. OUTRAGE!
Here’s the video:
Raw Story reports that Paterakis took to Facebook to continue his rant about pedophiles after his arrest:
Paterakis said in a Facebook post after his arrest that he’d been thrown out of a meeting a few years ago for protesting the Common Core curriculum, and someone had taught him to squat on the floor to prevent his removal.
“Pedophiles are in our schools and only a few citizens are doing anything about it,” Paterakis wrote. “I was hoping to inform the majority of citizens that do not know. But unfortunately the BCSO and BPS are proving to be the protectors of these pedophiles when they create trumped up charges to silence me from exposing what sick things are going on in our schools!”
On the way out the door, Paterakis could be heard whining, “I’m not going anywhere! This is America!”
The way this is generally being reported is that Paterakis was taking issue with a proposed LGBT non-discrimination policy but it looks more like he was campaigning by fear mongering against one particular teacher. However, a quick skim of his Facebook page reveals that he is indeed your typical right wing anti-Muslim, anti-trans bigot. Even if this particular incident wasn’t about bathrooms, just give it time. He’ll get around to it.
