Kellyanne Conway’s endless cheerleading for her boss and his family may have just finally came back to bite her.
In a Fox News (where else?) interview, Conway – one of Trump’s senior advisors and a woman who draws her paycheck from taxpayer money – decided to hit back at a private company for choosing to stop selling Ivanka Trump’s clothing line by using her position to promote products to enrich the First Daughter.
It was the shill heard ’round the world.
Kellaynne Conway on Fox: "Go buy Ivanka's stuff, is what I would tell you"…"I'm going to give it a free commercial here, go buy it today."

She flat-out admitted it: “I’m going to give it a free commercial here, go buy it today.”
Which is completely illegal.
According to a relatively straightforward portion of the “Standards for Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch,” Conway’s “free commercial” should cost her her job.
An employee his public office for his own private gain, for the endorsement of any product, service, or enterprise, or for the private gain of friends, relatives, or persons with whom the employee is affiliated in a nongovernmental capacity.
Ethics lawyers were totally stunned by how blatant this was. On MSNBC, former White House ethics czar Norm Eisen couldn’t believe what he was seeing:
“By doing this ad — I have never seen anything like it — it’s a violation of the rules, pure and simple. I imagine that you are going to see complaints flowing in. The responsibility to oversee this in the first instance is with the White House counsel, Don McGahn. He’s going to need to look at the rules, look at the precedents and decide what range of penalties might apply.”
The question now becomes whether or not anyone in the government will actually do their jobs and enforce the law. Already, Trump’s administration has gotten away with ethical violations that would have kicked off instant impeachment proceedings if committed by any other president. What Americans are slowly realizing is that the nation’s laws are only as strong as those enforcing them, and with all three branches of government currently run by feckless Republican Trump enablers, there is a pretty serious shortage of backbone in the capital.
Thankfully, Kellyanne Conway is making it easy for them. She’s practically begging to be fired. Just do it.
