Neil deGrasse Tyson came on The Daily Show this week to talk about a host of subjects. Mostl,y he was there to promote his new show, dubbed “Star Talk,” which premiered this week on the National Geographic Channel. The show is based on Dr. Tyson’s prominent podcast of the same name. According to their website:
The hour-long, weekly series infuses pop culture with science, while bringing together comedians and celebrities to delve into a wide range of topics. Each week, in a private interview, Dr. Tyson explores all the ways that science and technology have influenced the life and livelihood of his guests, whatever their background.
Sounds kind of wonky, but really it’s more like what Stewart and Dr. Tyson did on The Daily Show that night. Basically just talk about some fun subjects like Superman vs Batman and possibilities of living on Mars. Except with science and facts involved. Dr. Tyson also takes a few moments to celebrate how great it is to be a geek in 2015 and shows where the whole dynamic between jocks and nerds changed in our history. Namely the day when the quarterback realized that he needed his computer fixed. Now the richest man in the world is Bill Gates, as Dr. Tyson puts it, the poster child for geekdom and nerdiness.
As they always do, Stewart and Tyson have a great time talking superheroes, men in pantyhose vs iron, science and at the end, Neil exposes what Jon’s favorite element is as they talk about how Stewart was indeed a Chemistry major in college. A fact he revealed when appearing on Dr. Tyson’s podcast of the same name.
