How many people dream of having celebs officiate their wedding? I know I did- and yes, it was Kevin Hart! Kendall Oshiro and Genevieve Hernandez actually did it on a whim.
Portlandia star, Carrie Brownstein has been touring to promote her newly-published memoir at a local church with special guest Amy Poehler. During the tour, Brownstein mentioned that she had recently been ordained so she could officiate her two friends’ wedding later on this month.
When Oshiro heard that Brownstein was able to perform weddings she decided to purchase a marriage license in Orange County before heading to the event with fiance, Hernandez. Oshiro had a plan and was set on having Brownstein officiate their vows.
I told Gen, ‘How cool would it be if Amy Poehler and Carrie Brownstein were on our marriage license
Poehler encouraged Brownstein to accept the young couple’s request to perform their wedding. During the ceremony, Brownstein turned to the couple and assured them that everyone in the room, including her, wanted them to succeed.
All of us here are rooting for you. In the way that we always root for ourselves, in the way that we root for love to always win out over despair, for hope to win out over fear, for joy to win out over sorrow, we root for you in those ways.
This is a moment that they will cherish just like any heterosexual couple on their wedding day. The church didn’t spontaneously burst into flames due to God’s disapproval, the world did not end, and the right wing conservatives went about their crap-tastic day without any interruption. This just goes to show that there are still loving, non-judgmental, good-hearted people in the world and those who have a problem with it can piss off.
