Bill Ansell is being accused of terrorizing his neighbors with his unorthodox anti-Christmas display on Fairley Road in Ross Township, Pennsylvania. Neighbors say his display, which is up year round, is inescapable and he’s making their lives miserable. Ansell isn’t just some unstable, crazy person though. There’s a reason why he’s featuring a beheaded choir and urinating Santa Claus: revenge.
Years ago Ansell was one of those neighbors who went all out with Christmas decorations. His house had such a beautiful display that it attracted visitors from all over.
One year, neighbor Pamela Heck, complained that his lights were too bright on Thanksgiving and asked him to turn them off until after her family had dinner. That’s when all hell broke loose.
Ansell retaliated by shining spotlights in his neighbors’ windows in the middle of the night. He would go outside late at night and use a sledgehammer to hit random things and wake everyone up, and he’s in the prefect position on the street to do it. Fairley Road is a cul-de-sac, with Ansell’s house in the middle surrounded by all of the other houses. He’s literally the center of attention.
Neighbors say he soon erected his display which includes Mickey Mouse hanging, Santa peeing, and a headless choir.
One year he even had a Virgin Mary with a knife through her head.
“There was a Virgin Mary here, and he placed a knife through her head, right there on the edge of our driveway,” Joanne Hebda told “20/20.” “I thought it was a terroristic threat.” [Source]
Maybe a terroristic threat against the Virgin Mary, but that hardly qualifies as one against his neighbor.
Ansell also has profane, insulting signs in his yard. One even explains that his display is meant to piss them all off:
“This display is dedicated to Ross Township. Shame on you for destroying my display that brought so much joy and happiness to so many people.”
Neighbors have complained to the officials in Ross Township, he’s been cited, and told to clean up his yard. There’s even a court order demanding he go to it, but like a boss, he’s ignoring them all.
Yes, his actions are a bit childish. His neighbors absolutely have a right to be upset, but that’s what happens when you bother someone. He had a beautiful display and neighbors were unhappy. Now he has a horrendous display and neighbors still aren’t happy. It sounds like a lose, lose situation for Ansell.
I bet the neighbors wish they’d never complained about his yard now.
