Fox Viewers Speak Out: They Must Be Telling The Truth, Just Look At The Ratings (SCREENCAPS)

I was perusing the comments on an article I wrote about the White House omitting the word “news” from Fox News place cards at the annual State Of The Union luncheon. What I found were multiple instances of Fox viewers defending the network as truthful because, well…just look at those ratings:

Ratings don’t equal truth, Moose. People are emotional creatures, and when you appeal to the uneducated, misinformed and ignorant with headlines that include things like “death panels,” you’re sure to get them to keep tuning in.

The Obama administration doesn’t want Fox to follow their lead, scooter. They just don’t believe propaganda and lies deserve the title “news.” Love your profile pic, by the way.

Jealous of the audience Fox has? The average Fox viewer is 68. They score the lowest ratings with the 18-54 crowd. They are predominantly male and 98% white. Nobody is jealous of that viewership, it’s exactly what you’d expect.

It’s absolutely astounding that Fox viewers attribute truth to ratings. If that were the case The Kardashians would be the all-American family, Honey Boo-Boo would be the typical American child and everyone would get rich by growing beards and making duck calls.

It’s absurd. Fox has placed the word “news” on their network, yet little of what they report on is actual news. According to Punditfact:

At Fox and Fox News, 10 percent of the claims PunditFact has rated have been True, 11 percent Mostly True, 18 percent Half True, 21 percent Mostly False, 31 percent False and nine percent Pants on Fire.

That means about 60 percent of the claims checked have been rated Mostly False or worse.

To those of us under 68, non-white or female, that adds up to whole lot of BS.

A poll conducted by Farleigh Dickinson University showed that Fox News viewers are less informed than people who watch no news at all.

Are the viewers of Fox captivated by their hateful content or are they watching with the volume off? This photo, circulated on Reddit, shows the diversity of an overwhelming majority of Fox News actors and just why those 68-year-old white men might be watching so often.

The showcase of the network is of course Megyn Kelly, whose appeal can be summed up with one picture:

Yes, Megyn is an attractive woman. That didn’t quite matter when her primetime debut, which was met with more than 2 million viewers, attracted approximately 10% of the key 18-54 demographic.

It seems grumpy old men who love Fox News are and always will be their bread and butter.

Sorry, Fox viewers. The ratings don’t matter. It seems the White House got it right after all.

Funny, I’m from Glasgow in Scotland. Our life expectancy is 67… They would have no viewers here…

    • Thom Lee

I hope that’s a dry sense of humor. I should have been dead three years ago if those were state side stats. BTW, they wouldn’t be missing anything meaningful.

      • funkball

Some dry humour there but the life expectancy in Glasgow is genuinely 67.

        • Thom Lee

That’s so young. It’s hard to imagine. Even before medical advances. My family has lived at least to 83. My dad and his family 93.

          • funkball

That’s not quite how life expectancy works. My gran died at 78. My uncle died at 55. They are averaged figures.

    • Christian M.

Geez! What’s making you die so young? Single malt? Coal mines? Falling from cliffs?

      • ShroudedSciuridae

        Banshees

      • Jerry Cizz

        The English are too many…

      • funkball

        Good old fashioned poverty.

    • Kenny Robinson IV

i think that says more about Glasgow than it does Fox my man

  • Kevin Dommer

The idea that because of their ratings makes them right is the same as saying The Chicago Cubs are a better baseball team than the Tampa Bay Rays. Because more people go to Cubs games than the Rays, but the Rays have been in the playoffs where as the Cubs do not make the playoffs.

  • Ron Geiger

The Jerry Springer Show gets good ratings too….does not mean any of what they say is real.
Fox is the National Enquirer of cable news.

  • Ron Geiger

Even though Fox KILLS MSNBC and CNN in the ratings…. Fox actually gets low viewership.

    Prime time news viewership=

    Fox 1.5 million

    MSNBC 0.6 million

    CNN 0.5 million

    but don’t forget:

    abc 7.5 million

    nbc 8.5 million

    cbs 6 million

at 1.5 million Fox gets 6% of
    the 24.6 million viewers.

    Not much of a “news
    leader”.

One thing that’s always lost on geniuses like Kenny is that MSNBC is considered a “premium” channel in many, if not all, markets, while Fox “News” is always available on basic cable. Anyone that has just basic cable can get Fox, while in many cases, you actually have to purchase an extra tier of service to get MSNBC. What that means is that Fox is available to more households, especially poor cable viewers that can’t afford anything but basic cable. Ergo, the reason so many poor people in this country are so ill-informed.

You should probably lose the misogynistic, clearly photoshopped image at the top. You lose credibility when you do that. While I agree with the content of the article, the header plays right into the Fox news game, is itself misogynistic, and now gives the other side an excuse to point back at this article and say, “See, they do it too!” You are better than all that.

  • Jon Davis

Oh great, the same argument given by people who thought the National Enquirer was stating facts because so many people bought them at the grocery check out counter. Of course it’s the truth, because everyone reads it…

  • Frankie

I like to get my news from an unbiased objective news source like MSNBC

    • http://theauntiewarhol.wordpress.com/ Auntie Warhol

Well, you do that. Meanwhile liberals will be getting their news from a wide variety of sources, because we know that you can’t get the whole truth from any one source.

      • Kenny Robinson IV

huffington post, mother jones, grist, and the new (york) republic don’t count as the whole truth

        • http://theauntiewarhol.wordpress.com/ Auntie Warhol

Well, we can’t all read “all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years.”

          • Kenny Robinson IV

you can’t read all of them but you read a wider variety of news than non-libs?

          • http://theauntiewarhol.wordpress.com/ Auntie Warhol

I read, period, which puts me ahead of most non-libs.

          • Postal Trucker

Auntie Warhol, nice reference to that conservative darling that can see Russia from her house! I doubt if Kenny even picked up on it. After all, he’s a Faux News viewer.

  • Larry C

McDonalds sells the most hamburgers so they’re the best hamburgers in the world..right?

  • 9beentheredonethat9

Fox has an audience of about 1.2 million a day. WE all know right wingers like their radio, it is how the Christian Hitler got his message out to his ditto heads. But there are over 350 million people in the usa. So less than 1% of Americans tune in Fox News. That’s a poor percentage, escpecially for the most watch news magazine on the air at this time.

  • Michael Corliss

For several years, the most-watched TV program in the WORLD, was “Baywatch.” Fox viewers, your argument is invalid.

  • Steven Henley

Inciters are always popular with angry mobs.

  • http://theauntiewarhol.wordpress.com/ Auntie Warhol

And McDonalds is health food, as you can tell by the number of franchises.

  • Daniel Sackinger

The WWE enjoys high ratings too but that doesn’t mean pro wrestling is real.

  • Dawn’s Early Light

    It’s called demographic research.

  • Dawn’s Early Light

Keep telling yourself that if it gets your through the long, cold night.

    • Paul Duca

Especially if he doesn’t have one of those gals lying under him….

  • Craig Henley

I guess MSNBC needs to hire a slew of hookers as news anchors like Faux does to beef up their ratings, huh Kenny? T&A always sells, and as Michael Corliss said, “For several years, the most-watched TV program in the WORLD, was “Baywatch”.” Baywatch had airheads for actors, but because of the T&A, it was the highest rated show on TV. Same situation with Faux. When one tunes in MSNBC, it’s immediately apparent that their newscasters are far more intellectual than those on Faux, and that’s why MSNBC has a more intelligent audience.

    • Kenny Robinson IV

i love all of the excuses for MSNBC having such low viewership. More intelligent viewers? Not hiring “hookers” as tv hosts? everybody behold the democrats, the tolerant and moral party! great job representing yourselves! seriously, keep it up guys. who is more intellectual? al sharpton? HAHA. the two who just had their shows cancelled? seriously, i could do this all day.

      • Postal Trucker

Seriously…. I could do this all day…. LOL

        • Kenny Robinson IV

you could do what all day? post irrelevant pictures that only serve to prove the things i said above? keep on, mr. postal trucker.

  • jericho

How about you tell us all what’s incorrect in the article? Point by point.

  • footballexpt

Fox admits to propaganda. They preach to the choir and and it is fairly large. It is made up of the same folks who were against the Votings Rights Act.

  • 9beentheredonethat9

The left has never been enchanted with lovely ladies lying to them about national and world events, so of course, none of the other cable “news” have the largest small audience. That would be Fox and their devoted fans.

  • Charles Wallace

Old men who watch Fox fake news,,,, I am reminded of the ‘Dirty Old Man’ on Laugh-In and his infamous pick-up line,,” Heh , Heh , Heh , You want a Cookie,, Little Girl ?
Well?,, Do You Megyn,, Do You Want A Cookie ?!?!?!

    • Paul Duca

She shared HER cookies with the proper men…that’s how she got the job
