Fox News, that hotbed of journalistic professionalism, has done it again. On the November 10 edition of “The Kelly File,” host Megyn Kelly made the gaffe to end all gaffes as she introduced former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee.
Kelly gets her tongue tangled as she says:
Joining me now, former Arkansas governor, Mike Huckabee, who is the host of f***-a, of Huckabee, right here on the Fox News channel.
Governor Huckabee, who can be seen on split screen opposite Kelly, looks like he doesn’t know whether to break out laughing, or whether, as a former Baptist minister, he should condemn her to hell on the spot.
Some are wondering whether this was a Freudian slip on Kelly’s part. Kelly has “come out” to an extent as a defender of gay rights. Huckabee, on the other hand, has threatened to leave the Republican party if it becomes more accepting of gay marriage.
While a Freudian slip is possible, it is more likely that the explanation is that Kelly simply started to say “…the host of Fox News’ Huckabee,” but suddenly tried to change to “…the host of Huckabee, on Fox News.” There was a disconnect between her brain and her lips. Whatever the explanation, the result is hilarious.
Fox News personalities have made similar gaffes on air before, such as when Bob Beckel, a panelist on “The Five,” flipped an upraised middle finger to one of his fellow commentators. And of course there were the multiple “mistakes” the network made when it misidentified Republicans caught in scandals as Democrats.
