By now you’ve heard of Donald Trump’s claim that he saw “thousands and thousands” of Muslims in New Jersey cheering as the World Trade Center came crashing to the ground on September 11, 2001. Hopefully, you’ve also heard that a variety of people, from news producers to politicians, have been lining up to say it never happened. But Stephen Colbert has a different take.
On the November 24 “Late Show,” Colbert recapped The Donald’s claim, saying that he put his “crack footage team” to work, trying to find news footage of these alleged celebrations. They found a psychic doing a reading on a possum, but as far as Muslims in Jersey City celebrating the carnage in Manhattan? Bupkis. But what would you expect? It’s kind of hard to find news footage that doesn’t exist of an event that didn’t happen.
But maybe Trump has some sort of powers. Colbert plays clips of Trump talking about how he “predicted” in 2000 that Osama Bin Laden would be a problem for America. Colbert points out that Trump, who he calls “Nostra-Donald,” made his prediction about Bin Laden the same year Bin Laden was connected to the bombing of the USS Cole, and two years after he was indicted for the embassy bombings in Africa.
That’s spooky. It’s like Trump has some kind of ‘Fifth Sense’ that lets him see what’s in newspapers and on TVs.
When I look at Donald Trump, I see dumb people. With really bad hair.
