The gun-loving mom who was shot in the back when she allowed her toddler to roll around in the back seat of her truck with a loaded handgun may soon be facing jail time as a result of her stupidity.
Jamie Gilt, aka “responsible gun owner,” is now facing a second-degree misdemeanor charge for failure to properly secure her gun. She hasn’t been arrested yet because the State Attorney’s Office is deciding whether or not to file additional charges. If convicted, she could spend 180 days in the slammer.
She ran a facebook page named Jamie Gilt for Gunsense, filled with pro-gun memes, but apparently she doesn’t have a lick of common sense. Just hours before the “accidental” shooting she posted on the page that her 4-year-old son “gets jacked up to target shoot the .22.″
This gun-toting momma then decided it would be a good idea to leave a firearm within the toddler’s reach while he was unsecured in the backseat of her pickup truck as she was driving down the road. Somehow, this didn’t end up being a very good idea. I can’t imagine why.
According to the Sheriff, the loaded .45 caliber handgun “had been placed under the driver’s seat of the pickup truck and was not in a holster.” Go figure, after being taught by his mom that deadly weapons are just toys, he picked it up. Then, in a freak accident that nobody could have predicted, he just happened to pull the trigger and end pumping mommy full of hot lead.
Capt. Joe Wells said that the boy thought the gun was a toy. (Which couldn’t have anything to do with his mother’s habit of referring to guns as “toys” to be “played” with.)
We verified she’s legal to own the gun, and she possessed a concealed weapons permit. The child was looking for a toy he lost. It could be that he found (the gun) by looking for the toy.
Getting shot by her child, who could have easily shot himself instead of his mother, didn’t teach her a damn thing. Her mother, Jane Bramble said in multiple interviews that the entire family had every intention of continuing their ammosexual lifestyle.
All the gun control people are jumping on this, but it will not change her opinion about owning guns. She is very pro gun and will not change her opinion about owning them. She will keep her guns, and I’m happy that she will.
It was just a freakish accident, Jamie’s done nothing wrong. People are trying to make it into something it’s not, we are not criminals, we are the victims here.
It is obvious that Gilt and the rest of her family are incapable of learning from the experience and realizing that guns don’t mix well with children. Maybe some time in jail will teach her what getting shot by her 4-year-old apparently couldn’t.
