On September 24th, Pope Francis is coming to America to address Congress. Republicans hate this for a lot of reasons, but here is a list of the top 5.
Pope Francis has said that capitalism without restraint is evil
While in Bolivia, Pope Francis was very critical of the historical practice of wealthy nations, banks, and big industry in taking advantage of weaker developing nations, and their economies. Speaking of “sacred rights” that belong to the poor, he said it is the Christian responsibility of the wealthy to care for those in need. Pope Francis has taken particular issue with the massive income and wealth inequality that is so pervasive in the world today. This has caused most of the Right Wing to call him a “marxist.”
Pope Francis has called climate change a fact, and said that it is a Christian duty to address it.
Using the doctrine that God placed humanity on Earth to be stewards of the planet, Pope Francis has said that dealing with climate change is mandatory. He has released an encyclical stating this, and connected it to being a moral issue, because the poorest and most vulnerable would be impacted by it the most.
Pope Francis has offered forgiveness to women who have abortions.
This needs little explanation as to why Republicans hate it. During the coming year of mercy, the Pope has announced the Catholic church will extend forgiveness to women who seek it for abortions. Let the heads begin exploding.
Pope Francis does not see evolution as a myth.
Republicans, and conservative religious individuals and groups in general, use evolution as some sort of club to beat public schools, universities, science, and just generally being a smart person, over the head. Pope Francis rejects their behavior and said, “When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything, but that is not so.” If the abortion thing didn’t cause massive Republican heart attacks, this one should ensure it.
Pope Francis has made divorce more available.
New rules outlines by Pope Francis have made it less burdensome for couples seeking an end to their marriage to get one. Historically the church has made it extremely difficult to obtain annulments. Now, these new rules which are completely different, are seeking to change that and ease the burden.
While only Catholics are required to follow the Pope’s teachings, the embracing of Jesus as savior and God is central to Christianity the world over. It will be very interesting to see how the modern religious Right Wing, and Republicans will treat the Pope, as he is God’s “inside man” as it were.
